Kemba is a passionate advocate and the mother of a young adult living with Sickle Cell Disease. In 2021 she became Co-PI with Dr. Ofelia Alvarez on the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Sickle Cell Disease Newborn Screening Follow-up Program with the University of Miami. She also serves on Memorial Healthcare System's Sickle Cell Task Force education committee.
