Kennedy Goldsborough is a rising fourth year Pharmacology and Toxicology PhD candidate at Virginia Commonwealth University, and is a recipient of the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) Doctoral Scholars Program and the IGNITE Kidney, Urology, Hematology (KUH) T32 fellowships. She received her BSc in Biochemistry in 2018 from Hampton University with departmental honors. Under the mentorship of Drs. Aron Lichtman, world-renowned cannabinoid pharmacologist, Joyce Lloyd, hematology and molecular biology expert, and Wally Smith, clinical scientist and international expert in SCD, Kennedy's dissertation work focuses on targeting the endogenous cannabinoid system to reduce chronic pain, inflammation, and neuronal hyperexcitability in a humanized mouse model of Sickle Cell Disease. In addition to her scholarly research endeavors, Ms. Goldsborough serves as the President of the Pharmacology and Toxicology Student Organization, the Secretary of the Black Graduate Student Association, and Social Media/Public Relations Chair of the Neuroscience Interest Group (NeuroNerds) at VCU. Upon completion of her doctorate, Kennedy hopes to continue to work in Sickle Cell Disease research, but transition to more clinically-focused work for postdoctoral and future positions.
