Tonya Prince, Founding Partner of Sickle Cell Association of Houston is a highly respected Visionary & Leader. Her ingenuity and ability to create and meld community programming with her 25+ years of operational experience, has influenced and inspired many likeminded leaders to not only draw from her expertise; but to implement for impact. Tonya has received Congressional recognition from the Honorable Sheila Jackson Lee for her work and advocacy in support of the sickle cell disease community; as well as awards addressing health inequities, merit, and leadership. Her passion and work have been rooted in her very own personal experiences, as her daughter is also a part of the rare disease community.
Tonya Prince is responsible for the landmark legislation passed in Texas for the sickle cell disease community at large, which was spearheaded by Representative Jarvis Johnson & supported by Senator Borris Miles (also a SCD Warrior) during the 86th Legislative session. She currently serves on the Texas Department of State Health Services’ Sickle Cell Taskforce, Rare Disease Legislative Advisory Committee, the National Small Business Leadership Council, and sits as the 2021 Rare Disease Week Chairperson with National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD)
Tonya is married with two daughters and two of the most adorable little people you would ever want to know (grandchildren). She enjoys traveling but will only road trip if the car agrees to her “Foodie Map” of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives as seen on Guy Fieri’s show on the Food Network.
