Ms. Johnson is a licensed social worker with over twenty years’ experience including advocacy and care for patients with Sickle Cell Disease. Her career has expanded into project management, training and development as the Sr.Program Manager in charge of managing the Sickle Cell Disease Patient-Centered Medical Home at Virginia Commonwealth University. This program focuses on improving care, quality of life and safety, while reducing utilization and cost to the healthcare system by using a team approach and a Multidisciplinary Adult Care and Instrumental Support (MAIS) method. She is a faculty member for the National Alliance of Sickle Cell Centers(NASCC) and Council for Change and a former member of the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) Centers Workshops. She has a co-authored several peer-reviewed publications with the most recent being in the Journal of Continuing Health Education Professionals titled ”Development of a Framework to Describe Functions and Practice of Community Health Workers".
