Alexis Leonard, MD is an assistant member in the department of hematology at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital with a focus on treating patients with sickle cell disease. She received her medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine, and completed her pediatric residency training and pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship at Children’s National Hospital. During her fellowship training, she joined the laboratory of Dr. John Tisdale at the National Institutes of Health and focused on understanding and improving gene therapy methods and outcomes for the treatment of sickle cell disease. After fellowship she became a faculty member in the department of hematology at Children’s National while continuing her research at the NIH. In 2023 she joined St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with a focus on delivering and improving upon transformative therapies for patients with SCD.
