Jane Hankins, MD, MS
Dr. Jane Hankins is a member of the Department of Global Pediatric Medicine at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and a professor in Pediatrics at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. She is also the head of the Global Hematology Program within the St. Jude Global Program. Dr. Hankins’ research interests include implementing evidence-based therapies for individuals with sickle cell disease in Low-and-Middle-Income countries. She is a health services researcher investigating interventions to improve the transition from pediatric to adult care and self-management. Dr. Hankins has extensive experience running clinical trials for sickle cell disease, including those utilizing hydroxyurea. Her research has been funded by NIH and other Federal and State agencies. She designed and implemented a lifetime cohort study called SCCRIP to understand better the role of clinical and genetic predictive factors in the progression of sickle cell disease.
